Lawrence, Kan. — The Bureau of Indian Education has named Mackie Moore as interim president of Haskell Indian Nations University. Moore will serve in this role while the BIE conducts a national search for a permanent president.

Moore is an alumnus of the university and serves as dean of the College of Business at Haskell. He brings over 20 years of experience in tribal and higher education leadership, including service in academic administration, student success initiatives, and institutional development.

As interim president, Moore will lead HINU’s daily operations and oversee academic and administrative functions. His appointment ensures continuity of leadership as the university continues its mission to serve Native students from federally recognized tribes across the country.

This leadership transition follows the contributions of President Frank Arpan, whose efforts advanced student achievement, supported cultural preservation, and guided the institution through important periods of growth.

The Bureau of Indian Education will work in close partnership with the Haskell Board of Regents to identify and appoint the university’s next president. Haskell’s mission remains central to BIE’s work, and the Bureau is firmly committed to advancing tribal education, promoting student success, and supporting Haskell’s continued development as a national center for academic excellence and Indigenous leadership in higher education.
